On Kharvek, imminent contact as we break off conversation with the NHP node we discovered…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A gateway that looks identical to the one at the printer has materialized in the mine pit. Four mechs (so far) have deployed. One of the shooter-variants, one of the hammer-variants scaled up to Size 2, advanced version of the Axman, and the one from the spaceport that tried to hack Echo. These look more pristine and freshly-printed than what we’ve seen before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The local work crew mechs seem surprised. They’re not sure what to make of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The command unit appears to be conducting a search for the NHP casket across time and space. It doesn’t seem to have locked up yet. The other three are about to make life short and unpleasant for the locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The turrets are beginning to pay attention to Echo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold is telling his people not to engage – to just pull back. I give him a look. “Leave that to us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Echo orders Janus to scan. There’s too much local distortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hammer unit starts vandalizing the salvagers’ starship. The sniper and Axman are scanning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold and his bodyguard aren’t keeping up with us real well. They can catch up later. Our priority is getting mounted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We mount up. First target is the hammer; we hit it with combined attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We order the Workhorses to scatter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I deploy a Pattern-B hex charge along the hammer frame’s least-time path to me. It’s a good guess. The hammer walks over my mine and blows itself to shit with an 11-point hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobius’ smartgun is not so smart today (two 1s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m all about grenades today. Metalmark 1 gives me flash charges. I flashbang MainControl and the sniper, then melee and pursue MainControl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Echo finishes off MainControl. It emits a final burst transmission and the gate begins destabilizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I backshoot the Axeman and flashbang the sniper, then bounce over to the sniper and give it a ridiculous amount of attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I scan the portal. It’s connected to the (a?) desert wasteland. My enhanced environmental sensors indicate there’s a high radiological hazard level – WMD fallout and\/or ongoing catastrophic war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sniper, now alone, keeps going after Echo. It thinks better of this course of action and reverses toward the gate. Echo blows it to scrap as it’s in the process of dematerializing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wreckage of the other mechs begins to discorporate. We can both perceive and not perceive them. We have the option to fix some, all, or none in consensual reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We lock them down – the controller for intel value, the others for evidence value and to ensure the miners remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The miners don’t remember the shooter – and its wreckage vanished with the gate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
