Convor

Game: The Star Wars Roleplaying Game (Second Edition, Revised and Expanded) (West End Games, 1996)

My Experience: Back in the early 2000s, I was fortunate enough to play in the last year or so of Tracker7’s decade-long Far Orbit campaign. I’ve also played and run the FFG edition of the game a time or two.

Anastasia “Convor” Glaux, Reconnaissance Starfighter Pilot

See the quiet one at the back of the briefing room? Head down, taking notes on one datapad while she looks stuff up on the second? Yeah, that’s Convor. Don’t let the tuned-out act fool you. She’s getting more information out of those screens than she would from giving the Old Man her full attention. If this mission goes sideways, stick to her wing. She’ll find us a way out.

What? No, she’s not from anywhere I’ve heard of. Doesn’t talk much about home, and I can’t remember the name – she’s only mentioned it a time or two. Some no-name dirtball out on the rim where the only thing worth planting was an observatory, she said. Her folks were staff there, until the Empire shut it down and reassigned them. Don’t know where they got sent, and the look in her eyes said I’d best not ask.

Oh, you saw the patch? Yeah, she drives one of our recon birds. What’s that? Kid, let me tell you something – the places we go with lasers and protorps, she goes without them. Yeah, she doesn’t like killing, but don’t think for an instant that she’s a coward because she’d rather not pull a trigger. And you’d best hope the Force is with you if you say that in earshot of a less forgiving pilot than me. We’ve got no shortage of nuggets like you who are ready to get into the fight, but we could use a few more like her who spend their time thinking about how to win.

Notes and Afterthoughts

The core book’s fighter pilot template is scripted as brash, so I wanted someone who challenged that stereotype. Canonically, there are recon variants of both the Y-Wing (the BTL-A4 LP “Longprobe”) and X-Wing (Patrol model, with an unarmed recon variant also mentioned in the Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron novels), so there must be pilots who specialize in flying them.

With Anastasia’s Sensors and Starfighter Piloting cranked to the maximum possible for a starting PC, I didn’t have lot of remaining skill pips and dice to spread around, so she is notably short on any sort of offensive capability whatsoever (though, to be fair, her base Mechanical 4D for gunnery is still nothing to sneeze at). Sensors 6D but Perception 2D (especially with Perception being the game’s base for social skills) leans into certain stereotypes even harder. I’m okay with that. She’s a niche character and will rarely in the spotlight during high-drama scenes, but could be a solid support PC in the right party.

‘Stasia’s call sign is an in-universe avian that seemed appropriate.
